Making your Website more Visible on Search Engines
So, you’ve invested your time and dollars into a new website. It looks exactly how you envisioned and has everything you need and more. You can’t wait for people to start visiting and interacting with your new site! But…wait a minute. Who is going to see it or even know about it? You can make an announcement to your existing partners and clients, and encourage them to check out your new website, but how do you get it in front of potential new partners and clients? New or old – a website needs to be seen to be effective.
There are many ways you can increase traffic to your website. You can start a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) campaign. SEO is the process of utilizing your website to get more traffic from the free, or organic search results on search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo, etc. It involves optimizing keywords, metadata, links and content on your website to make your site easier to find when people are searching the web. It is a great way to bring visitors to your site.
You can also invest in advertising your website through Search Engine Marketing (SEM). In SEM advertising, your company bids on ad placement on search engines. (Google, Bing, and/or Yahoo) If your ad is clicked, then you pay the search engine a small fee for the click that takes the visitor to your website. It involves ongoing research to know which keywords to bid on and which ones will bring the most traffic to your website. What words or phrases are your clients searching for out on Google or Bing/Yahoo when they are looking for your company? There are many other demographics to factor in, such as geography, when choosing your keywords. You probably don’t want to advertise in Florida, if your store/agency is in Michigan! The final step is to create a great ad that compels someone to click on it to see what your company is all about.
