Shopify is a hugely popular e-commerce platform that allows anyone to create an online store without any coding experience. Their payment plans start from $29 – $299/month.

Pros and Cons of Shopify

Pros:

  • Easy to Use
    Almost everything can be done with a few clicks, so you don’t have to worry about the technical ins-and-outs of configuration or coding. Shopify has extensive documentation on how to set up your Shopify site.

  • Tons of Templates
    Shopify has a huge library of templates you can choose from and they are all mobile friendly.

  • Scalable
    One of the biggest pros of Shopify is its scalability. Here, a tiny shop has the tools to grow into a very large store.

  • Tools & Community
    Shopify App store is full of cool apps for all your needs. Most require payment.

  • Support
    Shopify has an around-the-clock support team. So, you could be working into the wee hours and be able to get help.

Cons:

  • URL Structure
    SEO is important to all online shops. Shopify URL structure is not ideal for SEO, because it uses sub-directories such as /pages or /blog /news

  • Multi-language
    Shopify does not have a built-in feature for language translation. You must download an app, which is expensive.

  • Transaction fees
    Shopify charges you a transaction fee on top of the transaction fee charged to you by PayPal or Stripe. Now you can work around this by using Shopify Payment, however, Shopify Payment is not available everywhere.

  • Creating custom content
    Shopify does come with a blog and pages. But if you’re looking to build custom landing pages, that would not be easy. You would need to know how to code.
